WHY BORNEO?

Hosting the NHCCE 2023 in the Borneo Region is our next personal mission that signifies HRD Corp’s most profound appreciation and supports our more than 11,000 registered employers and over 440,000 employees.

This is especially important as employers in Borneo are diverse, coming from sectors that include Services, Manufacturing, Construction, Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing, and Mining & Quarrying, among others.

Sabah and Sarawak, two states located on the island of Borneo in Malaysia, have experienced significant economic growth.

Both states are rich in natural resources, including oil and gas, timber, palm oil, and minerals, contributing significantly to their economic growth.

With their unique cultural and ecological settings, Sabah and Sarawak offer significant potential for further economic development as the states continue to pursue sustainable development to ensure long-term prosperity for their people.

Bringing our support closer to HRD Corp’s loyal stakeholders in this region, we acknowledge that Borneo has a solid human resources community with many experts and professionals in the field.

Now is the perfect time to bring the industry captains and the region’s thought leaders through NHCCE 2023 – Borneo Region for delegates to learn and network with these experts and eventually provide a unique and memorable experience for fostering collaboration and camaraderie among HR professionals.

CONFERENCE TRACKS

Today’s economy is dominated by globalisation, rapid technological advances, demographic changes, and fast-shifting consumer demands. For many organisations, the ability to transform and reinvent products, services and processes is becoming essential to survival and success.

This requires innovation at the workplace. Described as practices and cultures that allow employees at all levels to make the best use of their skills, knowledge and creativity to drive change, it is now being harnessed by organisations across the globe in a multitude of ways. According to Accenture, 63% of companies in North America are hiring chief innovation officers (CIOs), and more than 90% are using new technologies to support the innovation process.

This track will examine the status of technology adoption in the workplace. It will also discuss how leaders and HR professionals can create organisational policies and practices that support talent mobility, introduce new workplace models, and ultimately empower employees, particularly top talents, to embrace innovation.
For the first time in history, the world is seeing up to five generations in the workplace. From Traditionalists to Gen Zs, intergenerational employees are showing up to work with different perspectives, experiences, skills, and expectations.

Therefore, it is essential for leaders and HR managers to not only understand and address generational diversity issues but also empower their multigenerational workforce to thrive. According to Deloitte’s 2021 Global Human Capital Trends study, 70% of organisations say leading the multigenerational workforce is critical for their success. However, only 10% are ready to embrace it through culture and policy change.

This track will discuss how to address challenges and harness the benefits of a multigenerational workforce, what leaders and HR managers can do to attract and retain intergenerational employees and how to maximise mobility and growth at all levels of the organisation.
The pandemic has started and accelerated digital transformation for many organisations. Key to this transformation is the introduction of remote and hybrid working options geared towards maintaining employee productivity and ensuring business continuity.

However, such rapid shifts were not without issues. Research from the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) found that 71% of employers struggle to adjust to remote work, with 65% saying that maintaining employee morale has been a challenge and more than a third facing difficulties with company culture.

This track will discuss how HR can withstand the challenges in the changing work environment, what managers can do to transform various elements within the workplace and how to effectively meet evolving employee expectations.
Leaders are the essential catalyst in driving the future of work and inspiring a happy, productive and dynamic workforce. They must be knowledgeable, fast and firm in driving digital transformation, introducing new technological solutions and work processes and embracing a data-driven approach to decision-making.

At the same time, they must also be authentic, empathetic and trustworthy to deliver positive employee experiences, cultivate the right culture and retain top talents. According to research by Gartner, while employees want visionary leaders who can meet their needs in all areas, only 29% of those surveyed said that their current superiors embody these qualities.

This track will discuss the importance of workplace leadership and what leaders can do to be effective commanders who can strike a dynamic and effective balance between organisational growth and productivity and employee morale and wellbeing. It will also examine how leaders can understand and embrace technology to drive organisational transformation.
Malaysia is on the right track to economic recovery and growth following the pandemic, growing by 14.2% in Q3 of 2022, surpassing many of its regional counterparts. The trend is expected to continue, with its annual GDP expected to exceed the government’s projection of 6.5%-7.0% this year.

This sets the nation on a solid path towards becoming a high-income, developed nation. According to World Bank projections, Malaysia is expected to reach high-income status between 2024 and 2028. However, it must build a strong human capital foundation, focus on upskilling and reskilling programmes for its people and mobilise underutilised sources of labour supply.

This track will discuss how to explore human capital contributions to economic growth, strengthen lifelong learning for skills enhancement, and improve the quality of education to meet industry demands and business expectations.
