Pioneering Growth,

Inspiring Change

Join us at the upcoming National Human Capital Conference & Exhibition 2023 (NHCCE 2023)! This year, we will delve deeper into various issues and methods to mobilise your workforce to unlock new value through various platforms that nurture personal and professional advancement.

The theme for this year’s NHCCE 2023 is ‘Pioneering Growth, Inspiring Change’. It is a universal call to all HR practitioners across the industry, C-Suite members and industry leaders around the world – the future of work needs to be transformed in order to capitalise on the limitless opportunities provided by the boundaryless world today.

Pioneering Growth

Globally, an organisation’s ability to navigate through the structural shifts that has occurred in the global economy will depend on its ability to reset and adapt to the new realities of the workplace. There is an urgent need to create an agile and future-ready workforce to pioneer growth and remain competitive in the new marketplace.

Inspiring Change

Shaping future global economies necessitates challenging traditional norms, adapting a growth mindset and identifying innovative strategies to nurture a dynamic, future-ready workforce. Instead of merely plugging the capabilities gap, we must inspire change from within as organisations move away from hierarchical, top-down approaches to one that encourages flexibility, agility, transparency, creativity, inclusivity and employee wellbeing.

PILLARS & TOPICS

The five (5) discussion pillars were carefully selected to reflect and expand on the theme for the NHCCE 2023. It covers the core priority areas in human capital development at the personal, organisational, and industrial levels; Technology & Innovation, Leadership & Growth, Motivation & Wellbeing, Learning & Development, and Dynamic Workforce & Future Workplace.

These are designed to ensure a holistic look at human capital development and a constructive discourse on the right strategies from macro and micro perspectives.
There is a strong symbiotic relationship between Technology & Innovation and Human Capital Development. When organisations invest in technology, they can streamline processes, automate repetitive tasks and enable efficient communication. This can increase employee productivity as it frees up employees’ time to do more meaningful work and invest their skills and knowledge in creating innovative solutions for the organisation. In fact, according to the Asian Development Bank (ADB), firms that provide even minimal formal training to employees are 7.5% and 7.7% more likely to introduce a new product and implement a new process, respectively.

This pillar will examine the fundamentals of technology implementation in the workplace and what it means to employers and employees through the following:

Topic:
Humanising Technology:
Creating Exceptional Employee Experiences Today & Tomorrow

Technology is a fundamental aspect of the modern workplace. This is why investments in technology cannot be made in a vacuum. Leaders must ensure their technology systems and infrastructure are relevant to current and future business needs. Beyond that, humanising said technology in this employee-first era is critical to developing employees and driving organisational growth.

Discussion Areas:
• Approaches to digital transformation and technological implementation at the workplace
• Impact of technology adoption and automation on job transformation, employee productivity and business growth
• Cultivating digital literacy skills and human-technology interaction to drive disruptive and incremental innovation
Effective leaders are the most important aspect of driving organisational growth. They not only guide teams towards achieving strategic objectives but also foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Beyond that, they inspire employees to navigate through challenges, seize new opportunities and ultimately, reach their full potential. However, studies found that 77% of organisations claimed they are currently experiencing a leadership gap, and only 10% of CEOs believe their company’s leadership development initiatives have a clear business impact. This is a worrying development as the lack of strong leadership can have a negative impact on employee development and organisational progress.

This pillar will dive deeper into the importance of good leadership and how it affects employees, organisations and industries in the long run.

Topic:
Transformational Leadership:
Empowering People for Long-Term Success

Transformational leadership is one of the most relevant management philosophies for today’s fast-paced, diverse and highly technological workforce. This is because it encourages and inspires employees to innovate and develop new ways to grow. Beyond that, transformative leaders strive to foster an environment of creativity, diversity and greater employee autonomy, setting them up for long-term success.

Discussion Areas:
• Fundamentals of vision and strategy in transformational leadership
• Balancing emotional intelligence and strategic thinking for employee growth
• Generational gaps in leadership styles
• Understanding performance and power distance
Employee motivation and wellbeing are intrinsically linked to their performance at the workplace. Therefore, managers need to develop the capacity to understand, assess and take the necessary actions to meet these needs. This includes understanding and satisfying employees’ expectations for ownership and self-direction, connectivity and appreciation, as well as knowledge and skills development. This is important as, according to a recent Gallup study, employees work 20% better when motivated and highly engaged teams increase business productivity by up to 21%.

This pillar will discuss the core elements of employee motivation, innovative approaches to safeguarding employee wellbeing and sustaining momentum and productivity for the long term.

Topic:
Embracing SDGs:
Prioritising Talent Health & Holistic Wellbeing

The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 8 outlines the target for promoting sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all. This is aligned with the roles that Southeast Asian governments and businesses play in ensuring that employees are provided with good employment opportunities that provide for their physical, mental, and psychological health and wellbeing.

Discussion Areas:
• Applying SDG 8 to nations and organisations
• Factors influencing employee motivation
• Inventive ideas for promoting employee health and wellbeing
• Organisational culture and its impact on employee longevity and performance
A company’s success is highly dependent on its workforce. Making employee development a key part of company culture ensures workers stay up to date on industry best practices and learn new skills. This, in turn, boosts employee engagement and attracts top talent. Furthermore, employers who invest in additional education that complements an employee’s career trajectory can see higher retention rates and greater revenue. This aligns with employees’ demands and expectations themselves. According to the Randstad Work Monitor Report 2022, 97% of respondents in Malaysia have shown interest in learning and development opportunities. In fact, more than four in five respondents regarded training and development as an integral part of their career progress, recognising that it is an important step towards higher job satisfaction.

This pillar will analyse the importance of learning and development and how employees can navigate the new era of training in the digital-first post-pandemic landscape, where they are encouraged to upskill at any time, from anywhere and on any platform.

Topic:
Learning @Work:
Navigating Skills Development in the Digital Age

Employee upskilling is extremely important, especially in an era when learning technologies are growing in leaps and bounds. Today, digital skills are no longer reserved for the selected few. It is a fundamental requirement for every member of the workforce. Thus, it is important for employees and talents to develop their digital skillsets and also utilise digital platforms for continuous learning in other skills areas.

Discussion Areas:
• Understanding new learning trends and their significance
• Embracing the challenges, agility and adaptability of technology integration
• Fostering a learning culture and future learning ecosystem
Events of the last few years have shown us that having a dynamic and agile workforce is one of the biggest contributory factors driving organisational resilience. Multi-skilled and multi-capable employees are crucial in enabling businesses to pivot and persevere in the wake of disruption. At the same time, such employees can also devise and implement innovative solutions to workplace challenges. Collaboration and communication are the key elements of cultivating a dynamic workforce. According to research, top-performing and agile workers spend 45% of their time on the job working individually, 45% on the job working collaboratively, and 10% on the job learning and socialising. This is important as their approaches, preferences and expectations will play an instrumental role in shaping the future workplace.

This pillar will evaluate how to shape and sustain a dynamic workforce and how to implement the right policies and strategies for the future of work, and what it means for the workplace.

Topic:
Workplace Revolution:
Redefining Work & Workers in the New Era of Growth

In the aftermath of the pandemic, when remote and hybrid work became commonplace, work and workers have also been redefined. Today, work is no longer just about what an individual can do but what they can achieve. At the same time, workers are now seen as individuals within organisations who embrace continuous change while being grounded in purpose, community, and growth.

Such a radical relook at these previously conventional ideas will no doubt set the tone for what the new era of growth will look like and what this means for success in the long term.

Discussion Areas:
• Understanding future skills requirements and what this means for the current generation of workforce
• Fundamental pillars of the dynamic workforce and the hiring trends to create them
• Future skills requirements and what this means for the new era of work
