Kuala Lumpur, 29 February 2024 – Human Resource Development Corporation (HRD Corp) and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) jointly hosted the inaugural National Anti-Corruption (NAC) Summit 2024 at the Berjaya Times Square, Kuala Lumpur. The summit was officiated by Yang Amat Berhormat Dato’ Seri Anwar Bin Ibrahim, the Prime Minister of Malaysia. Yang Berhormat Steven Sim Chee Keong, the Minister of Human Resources; Yang Berhormat Nga Kor Ming, Minister of Housing and Local Government; Yang Berhormat Datuk Seri Dr. Dzulkefly bin Ahmad, Minister of Health; Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Haji Azam Baki, the Chief Commissioner of MACC; Datuk Abu Huraira Abu Yazid, Chairman of HRD Corp; Datuk Wira Shahul Dawood, Chief Executive of HRD Corp and Deputy Commissioner Dato’ Haji Idris Zaharudin, Director of the Malaysia Anti-Corruption Academy (MACA) were also present during the event.
Being the pioneer collaborative effort between HRD Corp and the MACC, the NAC Summit 2024 received exceptional support from the public, attracting more than 1,300 participants comprising training providers, employers, industry associations, and government agencies. The summit is a platform to equip organisations with comprehensive knowledge to combat corruption, promote ethical business practices and establish robust governance frameworks.
Themed ‘Embedding Integrity And Good Governance In Human Capital Development’, the Conference featured three (3) sessions, Mitigating Risk & Ensuring Accountability: Exploring Corporate Liability in the Modern Era; Navigating the Ethics Maze: Addressing Conflict of Interest in Professional Settings; and Fostering Integrity: Ethical Leadership and Responsible Decision-Making. The sessions were facilitated by prominent figures and advocates of anti-corruption within the country, such as Mohd Hasraff Hashim, the Head of Private Sector Integrity for MACC, Dr Ahmad Razman, the MBA Programme Director of Putra Business School, Malaysia, Dato’ Rohaizad Yaakob, an MACC officer with more than 30 years of enforcement experience and Dr Muhammad Mohan, the President of Transparency International Malaysia.
Meanwhile, during his speech, YB Steven Sim stated, “According to the Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) 2023, Malaysia has successfully achieved 50 points in 2023 compared to 47 points in 2022, indicating the government’s commitment to unity under the leadership of YAB Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim in combating corruption.”
“The Ministry of Human Resources (MOHR) will continue its efforts to strengthen Malaysia’s stance against corruption. Through the ministry’s 5k principles, transparency and integrity remain prioritised as we carry out our duties.”
HRD Corp also received its Anti-Bribery Management System (ABMS) certification during the summit, presented by the Chairman of SIRIM Berhad, Datuk Ir. (Dr.) Khairol Anuar Mohamad Tawi. The certification signifies the agency’s compliance with the universal requirements and guidance for establishing, implementing, maintaining and improving its anti-bribery management system. At the same time, it also affirms HRD Corp’s commitment to enhancing its organisational efficiency and effectiveness by establishing solid corporate governance standards.
The NAC Summit 2024 also witnessed the forging of a long-term partnership between HRD Corp and MACC to implement the Corporate Integrity Development Programme (CIDP). Through CIDP, both parties agreed to jointly embark on a mission to equip HRD Corp registered trainers and training providers with comprehensive knowledge and skills related to integrity and governance, corporate liability, and strategic anti-corruption initiatives. CIDP will be a mandatory training programme for all training providers registered with HRD Corp.
